Since January of 2020, I have served on the SFPS Board of Education. All too often, issues in our public schools are impacted by housing and meaningful community development. It impacts the ability to recruit and retain high quality staff to work in schools because they struggle to find or afford housing. It impacts school enrollment because families with young children often can't afford to live here on the wages paid for local jobs. There aren't as many companies with good paying jobs moving here for the same reasons (housing and education) and that stunts growth and opportunities. These things are all connected and we need to work on holistic solutions for the benefit of the community. I am passionate about this and dedicated to working on it through policy, advocacy, and/or service.
